Data commons to improve the efficiency and sustainability of smart agriculture. The AGRIMED project in the Mediterranean area.

Scenario

The agricultural sector is undergoing a gradual revolution driven by digital transformation and the use of data for sustainability and resource optimization. The use of Big Data, in particular, can have significant environmental and social impacts, especially for small-scale farmers who, due to limited skills and resources, restrict their use of digital tools to systems controlled by others, from which third parties extract data, information, and value.

Objective

The event highlighted how data sharing can constitute a system for value distribution; it explored the interests of farmers, local businesses, and communities in data collection; the interpretation of data as a common good; and the role of innovation actors within a real ecosystem.
