FoodSystem 5.0: Side event of the FAO Science and Innovation Forum 2022

Scenario

The Science and Innovation Forum 2022, organized by FAO together with the World Food Forum (WFF) and the FAO Hand-in-Hand Investment Initiative, aimed to highlight the central role of science, technology, and innovation in transforming agrifood systems. The Forum was preceded by around 100 side events: parallel sessions accessible online and independently organized by various organizations.

Objective

The side event organized by Rural Hack focused on the role of research, universities, and innovation hubs in supporting technological innovation processes rooted in territories, communities, and their potential for change and development. By giving voice to different actors within food system innovation processes, the discussion explored how to guide the major transformations expected in agriculture and the wider production sector, in order to foster food systems that are sustainable and respectful of both the environment and people.
