April of Herbs – Cilento FoodSystem 5.0

Scenario

Wild herbs represent a forgotten pillar of the Mediterranean Diet, acting as custodians of biodiversity and biological indicators of soil health. In the Cilento context, these resources are not only botanical elements, but also carriers of anthropological knowledge that risks disappearing. Recovering knowledge of wild herbs means reconnecting with natural cycles and seasonality, offering a concrete response to food standardization and the loss of identity in local systems.

Objective

Rural Hack collaborates in the project to integrate traditional ethnobotany with the FoodSystem 5.0 vision. The aim is to transform the collection and study of wild herbs into an experiential learning activity, promoting environmental awareness and food health. Through field workshops and dissemination activities, the project seeks to enhance “weeds” as gastronomic and ecological resources, strengthening the link between communities, landscape, and social innovation for a bottom-up ecological transition.
